Dr. Edward Breuer  is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry. His research focuses on eighteenth and nineteenth century Jewish intellectual History in Central and Western Europe. This includes work on the German-Jewish Enlightenment, and most especially on the writings of Moses Mendelssohn; on the rise of Wissenschaft des Judentums and the Reform movement; and on the study of the Bible, particularly Biblical Criticism, in the modern era. He has recently completed a an annotated translation of Mendelssohn's Hebrew writings (edited with David Sorkin) that will be published as part of the Yale Judaica Series in 2018.
